Tackling food waste and hunger

FoodCycle provides a comprehensive solution encompassing surplus food distribution and organic waste management. Established in 2017, FoodCycle Indonesia has evolved from a project focused on redistributing surplus food from weddings to a fully-fledged non-profit organisation functioning as a comprehensive Food Bank.

In 2019, FoodCycle Indonesia was recognised for its impactful contributions and became a part of The Global FoodBanking Network, a global coalition dedicated to tackling hunger and reducing food waste.

To date, FoodCycle Indonesia has distributed over 800 tons of excess food from various sources such as weddings, bakeries, restaurants, and FMCGs. As FoodCycle Indonesia continues to grow, its mission remains unchanged: to reduce food waste and combat hunger in the community. Through collaboration with diverse organisations and individuals, the organisation strives to build a sustainable and equitable food system for all.

The Impact of FoodCycle Indonesia

In 2023, FoodCycle’s food bank embarked on a mission to alleviate hunger and positively impact the lives of the underprivileged in the community. Remarkable achievements have unfolded over the years. A staggering 140 tons of food were rescued and distributed to countless individuals and families facing food insecurity.

In the same year, a bold initiative was launched to maximise underutilised organic waste through the FoodCycle Farm Programme. This programme redirects unconsumed and potentially wasted organic and food waste for beneficial purposes, employing composting techniques to generate fertiliser for gardens and protein sources for urban farming. The goal is to ensure the comprehensive utilisation of all food resources, minimise waste, and mitigate environmental damage caused by refuse accumulation in landfills.
