Samay

Across Latin America, respiratory diseases are often detected too late, while many communities remain underrepresented in the research and diagnostic standards that shape respiratory care.

Better detection for respiratory risk

Samay is a healthtech company making early respiratory diagnosis more accessible and affordable through Sylvee, a wearable chest patch that captures diagnostic-grade lung function data outside the hospital. Founded by Colombian physician-scientist Maria Artunduaga, Samay was born from both clinical insight and personal loss of her grandmother Sylvia, who died of a COPD exacerbation that existing diagnostic tools failed to detect early enough.

Built as a binational company with headquarters in Silicon Valley and a team in Colombia, Samay reflects Maria’s conviction that solutions for underserved communities should be developed with the people who live those realities.

A new standard for respiratory monitoring

Sylvee uses patented Active Acoustic Resonance and AI to measure lung function from outside the body. Instead of requiring patients to breathe forcefully into a tube or undergo CT imaging, the wearable patch emits a low-frequency sound wave through the chest wall and analyses how the acoustic signal changes as it travels through lung tissue. This makes it possible to detect changes linked to small airway damage years before they appear in standard tests.

Samay combines this technology with AI-driven digital biomarkers, point-of-care and home-monitoring services, and a unique longitudinal respiratory dataset from Latin America, supporting more diverse clinical research and earlier intervention for millions of patients.
