In Indonesia, smallholder farmers face growing climate risks and limited access to effective agricultural inputs, while the country’s vast tropical seaweed resources remain underused.
Seaweed solutions for smallholder farmers
Aquabloom converts Indonesian tropical seaweed into high-performance biostimulants and animal feed additives that help smallholder farmers grow more and lose less. Founded by Michelle Arsjad, the venture was born from a clear insight: farmers already carry deep knowledge, but often lack the tools that make their hard work count.
Drawing on experience across chemical engineering, strategy, and agricultural development, Michelle built Aquabloom to connect Indonesia’s seaweed potential with the needs of smallholder farmers facing rising costs, climate stress, and productivity challenges.
Innovation in seaweed farming and land-based agriculture
Aquabloom sources seaweed from smallholder coastal fishing communities, creating stable additional income for some of Indonesia’s most economically vulnerable households. Its proprietary extraction and formulation process preserves the bioactive compounds in tropical seaweed that support plant growth and stress response.
Applied at just 1L per hectare with no new equipment required, Aquabloom’s crop-stage specific formulations are designed to be simple, affordable, and effective for small farms. Proven across 27+ crops and 46 field trials, the products deliver 20-30% yield improvements while helping farmers access biological inputs suited to local conditions.
