Medanit Digital Health is Ethiopia’s first integrated, multi-channel digital healthcare access system, connecting patients to doctors, medication, and mental health services through a mobile app, website, and low-bandwidth call centre.
Founded by clinical nurse and social worker Beamlak Alemayehu, Medanit emerged from her first-hand experience of the barriers many people face – medically, emotionally, practically – when seeking care. As a founder, mother, and health professional, Beamlak is driven by a simple goal to make healthcare easier to access and navigate for people traditionally excluded from formal health systems.
Innovation that addresses real, everyday challenges
Through its app, web platform, and national call centre short code 6636, Medanit Digital Health reaches users with and without smartphones or stable internet. Its platform integrates doctor consultations, appointment booking, medication delivery, and mental health support in one patient-centred system. This results in reduced delays and helps people find the right care pathway.
Medanit Digital Health is also developing AI-powered triage to guide patients based on symptoms, while its pharmacy and delivery integrations improve access to prescribed medicines. With real-time data on patient needs, searches, calls, and orders, Medanit can support stronger supply chains and better health system planning.
