Terra Verde
In Honduras, food insecurity remains a pressing issue, with approximately 1.8 million people experiencing acute food insecurity between December 2023 and February 2024. Additionally, women in rural areas face significant barriers in agriculture, including limited access to resources and decision-making opportunities.

Women-Led innovation in Honduran agriculture
Founded in 2015 by María Auxiliadora del Rosario Molina Ríos and led by a dedicated team of women, Terra Verde transforms the challenge of perishable produce into a powerful opportunity for nourishment, dignity, and growth.
What began as a modest initiative to freeze surplus fruit into pulp has grown into a dynamic food enterprise. Today, Terra Verde produces a vibrant array of freeze dried vegetables, fruits, and corn-based products infused with vegetables such as tacos, chips, and tortillas, that celebrate the flavour and diversity of Honduran agriculture. Every product reflects a commitment to quality, sustainability, and thoughtful innovation, reducing food waste while generating stable incomes for smallholder farmers across the country.
Scaling impact through sustainability and inclusion
Terra Verde is a mission-driven social enterprise committed to improving food security, reducing environmental impact, and empowering women in the agricultural sector. The majority of its workforce is made up of women, many from vulnerable communities, who are trained, supported, and actively involved in every step of the production process.
This inclusive approach not only advances economic empowerment but also redefines the role of women in the rural economy. Through mentorship, strategic partnerships, and a deep-rooted commitment to sustainable practices, Terra Verde is scaling its impact across Honduras and beyond, offering a replicable model of community-led transformation in food systems.
