Reme-D

From everyday flu to global outbreaks, the turning point in any illness is often a simple but vital tool: a reliable diagnostic test. Yet across much of the Middle East and Africa, especially in remote or underserved areas, access to testing is delayed, prohibitively expensive, or entirely out of reach.

Making medical diagnoses work for low-resource regions

During the COVID-19 pandemic, whole regions were left without fast, affordable, or accurate diagnostics. Imported kits were costly and slow to arrive, if they arrived at all. Even when they did, many proved unusable due to complex storage requirements or laboratory procedures that smaller clinics or extreme climates couldn’t support.

Founded in 2022 by Salma Tammam, Reme-D is working to rebalance that equation. This Cairo-based biotech company develops diagnostic tests tailored specifically for low-resource environments. From DNA and RNA extraction kits to PCR tests for infectious diseases like hepatitis and HIV, Reme-D’s innovations are reshaping what’s possible in regions that have long been left behind.

Closing the gap in diagnostics

Reme-D’s tests are stable at room temperature, eliminating the need for refrigeration, which means these diagnostics tests are durable against climate and geographical nuances.

Every test component is made from locally sourced materials, which reduces costs and avoids delays caused by import restrictions. This in-house innovation results in testing processes that are three times faster and far simpler than most standard kits, enabling overburdened labs to process more samples without hiring additional staff.

Reme-D is an Egypt-based biotech company developing affordable, locally made diagnostic tests using patented technology adapted for low-resource settings.
